Hello, I'm Karen Louise.

I'm a ceramic artist and maker based in the United States, and Louise Moreau Studio is the place where clay, glaze, and intention come together. Every piece that leaves my studio has been touched by hand at every stage — from the first wedge of clay to the final firing — and that's something I never take for granted.

My path to ceramics wasn't a straight line. It was shaped by a deep love of objects that are both beautiful and useful — things that earn a place on your table, your shelf, your morning routine. I wanted to make work that didn't ask to be admired from a distance, but invited you to pick it up, wrap your hands around it, and use it every single day.

The Process

Each piece begins on the wheel, shaped slowly and with attention. I work primarily in stoneware — a clay body I love for its warmth, its weight in the hand, and the way it holds texture. After an initial bisque firing, every piece is glazed by hand. I mix just about all of my own glazes, which means the colors and surfaces you see in the shop are exclusive to this studio.

Glaze is where the real magic happens. I'm drawn to surfaces that reward a second look: soft mattes that shift in different light, layered glazes that pool and break at the edges, and reactive glazes that respond to the kiln's atmosphere in ways I can guide but never fully predict. No two pieces are identical — and that's entirely the point.

Work is fired in an electric kiln to cone 6, producing durable, food-safe, and dishwasher-safe pieces built for real life.

Functional Art

I believe the objects we use daily shape how we experience our lives. A mug that fits perfectly in your hand, a bowl whose glaze catches the morning light, a tumbler you reach for without thinking — these small moments matter. My work is made to be part of them.

"Functional art" isn't a compromise between beauty and utility. It's the belief that the two are inseparable. Every piece I make is designed to be used, loved, and passed on.

The Studio

I work from my studio, where I make everything in small batches. Small-batch production means I can give each piece the attention it deserves, and it means the shop is always evolving — new glazes, new forms, new collections released throughout the year.
