Collection: History & Process
Welcome!
Come on in and discover my studio, where artistry and everyday living become one.
I believe art should be a part of our daily lives. This passion for creativity has been with me since I was a child and it's the driving force behind everything I make.
Here, you'll find handmade creations that are as beautiful as they are functional. I craft each piece with care, using unique designs and vibrant glazes to celebrate the joy of functional art. My pottery is meant to be used and cherished, whether it’s a sturdy mug for your morning coffee or a stunning bowl for serving up a favorite salad. Every item you see is a testament to my dedication as a maker.
I hope one of my pieces finds a home with you or becomes a perfect gift for someone special.
My process
The journey of each piece begins on the pottery wheel, where a lump of porcelain-like white stoneware is centered and thrown. This part of the process is a dance of control and surrender as I shape the clay, coaxing it into its final form.
But my work isn't just about the spinning clay; I often alter each piece by hand, adding unique touches and subtle details that make it one of a kind. After the clay has dried, the pieces are carefully placed in an electric kiln for their first firing. This initial firing transforms the soft clay into a durable ceramic body, ready to be glazed.
Finally, the pieces are fired a second time to Cone 6 (2232° F), a high temperature that vitrifies the clay and gives the glazes their vibrant, glassy finish. This final, fiery transformation is where the true magic happens, revealing the rich colors and textures that make each piece a functional work of art.
Glazing is the final step in a piece's journey, and it's where artistry and function truly come together. My glazes are chosen and applied with a commitment to both beauty and practicality, ensuring that every piece you bring home is not only a work of art but a durable, everyday companion.
All of my glazes are non-toxic, and food-safe. The high-temperature firing to Cone 6 is crucial in this process, as it vitrifies the clay and ensures the glaze is fully melted and bonded to the ceramic, creating a smooth, durable, and safe finish.
The result is pottery that is designed to be a part of your daily life. You can confidently use my pieces for serving and enjoying all your favorite foods. They are also crafted to be microwave safe. The stoneware clay body and the specific glazes I use are resilient, withstanding temperature changes and repeated washing without chipping, cracking, or fading.
By focusing on these high-quality, functional glazes, I can ensure that your new piece of pottery will bring you joy for years to come, no matter how much you use it.
